Google now give users option to auto-delete both activity data and location history

Google is deciding to allow its users to have more control over their personal data.

Earlier this week, on Wednesday Google, announced their new feature that will allow its users to have an auto-delete feature for their web activity data as well as their location history which is attached with their Google account.

Time Interval for Auto-Deletion:-

The feature allows the users if they choose to opt it, to delete their activity data and location history after the interval of every 3 or 18 months. Once the feature is selected and the time interval is set for auto-deletion, any type of data which is older than the set time will be deleted on its own from the account of the user.

Google already provides a form of the feature to some extent to the users. Users were able to delete any specific location and web data history for specifics an also turn those feature on or off on as they liked. But with this new feature, users will now be able to delete all of their data after a short period of time.

Google under Scrutiny:-

This announcement by Google came following a week after a lawsuit was filed against Google last year regarding their practices of data collection and location history. Investigations from authorities revealed that the tech giant was still tracking and keeping tabs on their users even after they turned the feature off from the settings.

As for Google, they stated that they are only making use of this information to make the experience of the user more personalized. An example of it is that when a user uses Google maps, it shows them the location of their favorite restaurant. Still, the majority of Google account holders are unaware of the fact that their data is being collected and stored by the search company for the websites that they have visited.

With the privacy becoming a major concern in the tech market these days, major companies like Google are now stepping up to provide their users increased control over their search data.
