Uber Air announces the first international city for its flying taxi trails

Uber has finally announced the first international city for its flying taxi trials.

The city that has been selected is Melbourne the city of Australia as it is going to join cites such as Los Angeles and Dallas for being the official third pilot city for Uber’s Uber Air. Uber Air is the ambitious project launched by the ride sharing company to providing people with transportation for short distances using the aerial routes.

The test flights are expected to start some time in 2020 while the commercial operations are expected to start some time in 2023. As of now Uber has claimed that the price for the Uber Air will be the same as the Uber X ride given the same distance but it is highly debatable.

Susan Anderson, the general manager for the Uber Australia, New Zealand and North Asia said in her statement to media, “Australian governments have adopted a forward-looking approach to ridesharing and future transport technology. This, coupled with Melbourne’s unique demographic and geospatial factors, and culture of innovation and technology, makes Melbourne the perfect third launch city for Uber Air. We will see other Australian cities following soon after. The State Government of Victoria, Australia has been highly supportive, and we look forward to partnering with them to progress into this first international trial for Uber Air in Melbourne.”

The idea behind the launch of Uber Air is to lessen the congestion on roads. The global head of Uber Elevate named Eric Allison said that an average trip from Central Business District of Melbourne usually takes about 25 minutes. However with Uber Air, this distance will be reduced to mere 10 minutes.

Uber revealed that the preference to launch the Uber Air is for the metro areas with high density of population exceeding 2 million individuals.

Other preferences by Uber are the Polycentric regions as well as the cities that have already integrated Uber on the streets.
