In 2017, a New York company of “smart” medical aid kits not only started to sell first aid kits but also started to give consultations on how to perform first aid. Unfortunately, it can happen that in an emergency situation you might not even have a standard first aid kit. The good news is that things that seem trivial at first glance can actually be of great help.
Today we have decided to figure out which ordinary things are suitable for giving first aid and can help in an emergency situation.
So scroll down to have a read and look at some of the common everyday items which are helpful for giving ‘First Aid’.
Juice or milk
In case of a burn, it is important to cool off the burnt place as soon as possible. Doctors recommend placing the burnt skin area under a running tap for about 15 minutes. If there is no water source nearby then you can apply any other harmless liquid like Water or Juice over the burnt area. Be aware to not apply any oil as it will further damage the skin.
Plastic product bags for covering the bunt area
If you have successfully cooled down the burnt area then next comes the covering. Wap you burnt area in a thin plastic film as it will keep the infection causing bacteria away for the most part. Normally you can use either plastic food bags or the frozen products. These items will not stick to the brunt skin thus not causing any additional damage.
Diapers and panty liners
If you have no first aid kit in case of an injury for dressing it up, then you can make use of the Diapers or Pantyliners. These items are the best hygiene products and thus can also be used for dressing the wounds. They also have excellent absorbing properties too.
Sugar
How many times has it happened that when you are in a hurry and you gulp down that hot coffee and end up burning your tongue? I guess the answer is many times. The pain is definitely excruciating. Well, you can follow this simple tip next time.
Place some ordinary sugar on your tongue for a few minutes until it dissolves. This not only soothes the burning feeling on the tongue but also repair the damaged taste buds.
Bra
If you end up in a situation where the pace gets filled with smoke then you can also make yourself a makeshift Gas Mask. An ordinary non-silicone bra is able to be used as a gas mask because of its breathable materials. These non-silicon bras can filter out smoke and dust that might cause hindrance in normal breathing.
Oatmeal
Have you ever suffered from Sunburn itchiness? I guess you have. Instead of wasting money on costly ointments you can try this simple homemade remedy.
Make a Luke warm bath for yourself and add in it about 200 grams of oatmeal. You do not have to mix it. Just put it in a sock or any clean material and let it soak it. You can also place it over the mouth of tap to let the bath water run through it. 15 minutes of soaking in this water will remove that itch away.
Tea bags
Drinking tea is helpful in removing the eyelid swelling but it also has one other health benefit. The tea contains “Tannins” in it which have ‘anti-inflammatory’ properties in it. These Tannins can be used for treating itching caused by insect bites. After brewing yourself a teacup, cool down the tea bag and apply it on the bitten area. Itchiness will stop after some time.
PVA glue
This is a good method used to remove splinters that are not very deep, especially in small kids who tend to get freaked out when they see a needle or tweezers. Apply a little PVA glue to the splinter as well as the skin around it and let it dry. Then remove the dried layer of the glue from the skin and it should also pull the splinter out.
