Instagram is soon going to start placing ads within its Explore page

More and more ads are going to be coming to new places of Instagram. A few days ago, the social media network stated that it is soon going to place its ad within its Explore page which is the place where users normally go in order to discover newer contents that directly line up with their interests.

These ads are not going to appear on the grid of Explore but once a user taps on an Explore post, they will appear and will begin scrolling in the discovery feed.

The ads are mostly going to be videos and photos and the very first ad on the Explore page is for IGTV and it went live three days ago. The team at Instagram is going to be working with selected partners in the coming few weeks with an aim to opening ads on Explore for everyone.

Director of business product marketing, Susan Buckner Rose said, “Explore is the place where people are really open for any new discovery and that is why we are really excited about all this.” She said that her team is all about the concept that “people are most receptive to advertising” and for that Explore page is the perfect fit as it is the place ‘where people mostly come to discover new accounts, people or brands that they are not already following”.

As for the Explore grid not having any ads on it, it is still not clear why has it been left untouched.

While it is true that when it comes to finding newer brands, people often go on the Explore but they might not love the idea of seeing more ads in their numerous feeds. Instagram is already presenting ads in the Stories and its regular feed and now bringing them to another place will start ruining this ultimate Instagram experience for sure. But at the end of the day, Instagram is an ad-run business and it needs to look for as many digital real estate as it can get. As for users, they are not paying Instagram anything for using it, so they can at least pay in the form of giving their attention to the content of the brand.
