CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) issued a report in which they said that they are currently looking into nearly 153 possible cases for a mysterious and a severe lung disease that has its association with the use of the e-cigarette.
According to the CDC, they are currently investigating this disease along with the help of 16 other states where these cases were reported from 28th June to 20th August of 2019.
Symptoms of the Mysterious Illness:-
This illness is seemingly started with gradual symptoms which include the following.
- Difficulty in breathing
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
As for some cases, they have been known to have caused moderate to mild cases of following conditions.
- Gastrointestinal illness
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue

As for the mortality rate, no one has died of this severe yet mysterious illness.
No cause determined:-
The cause for this illness is yet to be determined with proof but one thing that all these affected patients have is the use of Vapes. In many cases, some patients said that they have recently used THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) based products. THC is a compound that is present in Marijuana so there is a possibility that these patients are vaping on weed products.
As for this disease being an infectious one, this scenario has been ruled out by the CDC and they are working tirelessly to narrow down disease’s possible cause as well as verify its cases. CDC has issued a notification to doctors for reporting any of the suspected cases for this disease to their respective State Health office. They should also provide the information like the detail of the symptoms patients is experiencing, what kind of vape the patient has been using and what exactly vape product hey were sing before the onset of their symptoms.
FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has also started their investigation into the e-cigarettes and have asked the public to report any of the adverse experiences of the e-cigarettes online with the agency.
Youth Vaping affected most:-
The majority of the patients are in the age group of adolescents and young adults. This is not a surprise because “Youth Vaping” has been declared as the epidemic by the US Surgeon General last year in December.
From 2017 to 29108, the trend of vaping among the high school going population has increased by nearly 78 percent. Nowadays 27 percent of the high school students are using these e-cigarettes on a daily basis.
