The incident, which happened in Shanghai, China, was captured on security camera footage and afterward, was shared on the social media and went viral.

A few second shot video clip shows a light cloud of smoke suddenly started generating from underneath the car which then went on to envelope the car whole and then catches fire in an exploding manner.

The car was parked in a garage at the time of the accident, so other than the cars next to it receiving damage, no physical injuries of the sorts were reported.

According to the time stamp on the video, the accident happened at near about 8:15 AM on April 21st.

As of now, there is still no report from Tesla who is currently working with the respective Chinese authorities to uncover the source of this smoke, fire and the explosion.

In the past, many Tesla cars have been reported to catch fire. However, all of these incidents occurred after a Tesla car met an accident and the battery pack gets damaged. As for the Tesla battery pack in its intact form to cause combustion, it is the first of its kind. Tesla claims that their battery pack cars are at least 10 times less likely to catch fire as compared tot eh gasoline powered cars.

This timing for Tesla car to catch fire is extremely crucial for the company as Tesla is currently most popular in China with nearly 20 percent of its total sales being made in the country. Tesla is also planning to install a Tesla production facility in Shanghai to produce h cars domestically in China to avoid the trade war between the US and China. Tesla plans to have the plant up and running by next year with a production capacity of 500000 cars, which will be free of any tariffs.
